Creepiest game tunes...

Well, this is a pretty cliché list as far as creepy game tunes go, but it doesn't make them any less creepy!

And here's something really creepy. I listed Lavender Town from Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow above. Well, the remakes, Leaf Green/Fire Red, version of Lavender Town isn't nearly as creepy.

BUT WAIT!

Reverse it, and you get this terrifying piece of music:

The original sounds like everything and everyone is being destroyed before you, and there is nothing you can do. Reversed it sounds like you are searching through the debris and rubble for your loved ones, but they are all gone, and you leave.

Alone.

Activision have ruined one of my favourite childhood games.

D'awww, isn't he cute?

Good ol' Spyro the Dragon, one of the gems of the PS1. I spent countless hours playing Spyro, they are truly excellent games.

He's undergone redesigns over the past, but he's always looked at least somewhat cute. And now, Activision do this:
What the hell is that? That is NOT Spyro the Dragon! What's with all the aggressiveness? He looks like the main antagonist, not the lovable main character I want to play as.

To be honest, Spyro games have been pretty awful for a while, but this redesign has gone too far, he's gone the same way Crash & Sonic did!

WHY ARE GAME COMPANIES INTENT ON RUINING MY CHILDHOOD?!

So I've heard people saying 'Video game music just isn't as any good as the old days'.

Well I say it depends on what you're playing and who's music you listen to.

Anybody recognise this handsome fellow? If not, then you're missing out on some of the greatest video game music, no, just some of the greatest music overall of recent times.

The gentleman in question is called Simon Viklund, and he has created soundtracks for games such as Bionic Commando Rearmed, Final Fight: Double Impact, Ballistics and most recently, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.

He creates electronic music, and it ranges from typical dancey club songs with banging beats to drum and bass inspired pieces, dubstep, and even a bit of 8-bit.

Here, check out the following song:

Simon Viklund - Power Plant:

Now to me, that is pure bliss. It's just a perfect song. I think the user 'MadMetalSlayer' sums it up nicely in his comment on the video:

"seriously.....i got a boner listening to this"

...yeah.

Now, I can understand why people would say 'Oh, but the classic composers were better' and I can fully understand this. My favourite composers are probably:

Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage)
Masato Nakamura (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Koichi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest/Warrior)
Multiple Mega Man composers
And of course, Nobuo Uematsu (I don't think I need to say, but multiple Final Fantasy games, including FFI - FFIX, bits of FFX, FFXI and FFXIV.

Even FFXII, despite being an awful game in my opinion, had a great soundtrack. It was absolutely brilliant. I discovered most of it through FF Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (which uses some of the same songs) and it's a beautiful album.

Hitoshi Sakimoto - Painful Battle

I think to say that video game music is no longer any good is pure ignorance; you clearly aren't listening to the right OST's.

Two songs from the upcoming game Mutant Warzone 2 by 8 Bit City!

I created both of these pieces. They have pretty boring titles, but that's what 8 Bit City asked for the titles to be :)

Enjoy:

Track 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cc7vSgGXUc

So, just got this blog going. I figure I'll introduce myself.

My name is Jordan Norbury, although I go by mrjordak. Why, you ask? Well, that's a very good question, with a extremely boring and nerdy answer.

I was playing Pokemon (Yeah, I play Pokemon! @_@) and I meant to type Jordan as my name, but somehow put a 'k' instead of an 'n'. So there's Jordak. The lower case 'j' was just randomly changed, and the 'mr' comes from when I set up my YouTube account, and 'jordak' was taken. They recommended 'mrjordak', and I found that hilarious. And that's the boring story of how I got my alias.

Anyway, this blog will basically just be me, showing off music I create (primarily 8-bit and MIDI) and talking about other video game composers I enjoy listening to. I'll also talk about any video game projects I get the chance to work on. For instance, my first project, a freeware game by the incredibly talented 8 Bit City:

http://8bitcity.blogspot.com/

It's called Mutant Warzone, and although it's not finished yet you can download a Beta. It's great fun. Just to let you know, there have been some problems getting the soundtrack into it, but hopefully that'll be fixed. If not, the soundtrack will still come with the game :)

So yeah, check that out, and I'll post again soon: http://8bitcity.blogspot.com/2011/02/mutant-warzone.html
